Oscar Winner: Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldaña, celebrated for her unforgettable roles in films like Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Trek, recently opened about her journey with dyslexia during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“When you have a child that has ADHD and is dyslexic and has a lot of energy and doesn’t sit still and is unable to listen, you think that it’s on purpose. I just remember asking myself, ‘Why don’t I fit in? Why do I do this?’ It would make me really sad, and it would make me feel really isolated.”

Saldaña also mentioned that her conditions made it difficult to have a life in the Dominican Republic as a child, as she didn’t speak Spanish, and shaped how she behaves as an adult now.

But, she didn’t stop. She used her insurmountable amount of energy and took up dancing classes, following a career as an actress.

Her journey includes a series of unique and loved achievements:

  • Bringing the fierce and graceful Neytiri to life in Avatar

  • Portraying the resilient warrior Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy

  • Challenging conventions with her dynamic performance in Star Trek

  • Using her platform to advocate for diversity and inclusion

  • Winning several awards including a BAFTA and a Golden Globe

✨ Guess what? She’s now an Oscar winner. The sky’s the limit, and your differences help you thrive!
